Pathfinder 3pp Top Ten, June 4, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list as well as new and trending products that catch my attention.

Here is the Top Ten list.

1. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

2. Kineticists of Porphyra 3 - Purple Duck Games

3. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

4. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

5. In the Company of Treants - Rite Publishing

6. Everyman Options Kineticists - Rogue Genius Games

7. In the Company of Dragons - Rite Publishing

8. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

9. The Genius Guide to the Talented Cleric - Rogue Genius Games

10. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

One on One Adventures is at the top this week. This products facilitates play with 1 GM and 1 Player allowing you to keep going when you're short on players. Its also very thoughtful of the needs and limitations of types of classes for the adventures.

This week is also another week of Kineticist Domination. The Kineticists of Porphyra series has been a top seller since I first started these weekly overviews back in March with Everyman Options: Kineticists joining the list more recently. All give new options to the Kineticist class including, new feats, new wild talents and new archetypes.

Rite Publishing hits the list this week with two race books, one for Treants and one for Dragons. In the Company of Dragons has been a high seller for a while, but In the Company of Treants is rather new, with a new paragon class and three different races of Treants. Rite Pubilshing's race books never fail to have satisfying crunch and beautiful fluff.

Dreamscarred Press has been out of the list a few times in the past few weeks but since last week they have a solid stand with the ever popular Ultimate Psionics, and relatively new expansions to the popular Path of War book, Path of War Expanded.

Rogue Genius Games continues with it's popular Talented line with the Cleric class getting the treatment this time. The Talented series takes paizo classes and breaks their class features and archetypes down to a series of edges and talents that you select piecemeal in order to get the kind of character you really want without the fuss.

As far as other things catching my eye this week:

Abandoned Arts, under Fat Goblin Games has put out a Spell Power: Animated Object, a book of feats to interact with the Animated Object spell.

Legendary Games joins in with the Kineticist trend with Legendary Kineticists. This product boasts over 150 new options for the Kineticist, including new blasts and talents but also new archetypes for other classes. Also from Legendary Games is the third part of their Trail of the Apprentice adventure, The Thieves Den. Its important to know that this series is a part of a line of adventures meant for beginning players and particularly compatible with the Beginner Box.

Continuing their supplemental support of Spheres of Power, Dropdead Studios now has the Enhancer's Handbook. This product has a lot of bang for the buck, introducing new talents for the Enhancement Sphere, five new archetypes for both Spheres of Power and Paizo classes. feats and expansions on animated object monsters.

Zenith Games now has Superhero Classes allowing you to play as a Superhuman, Animalman or Telepath.

Coming out from their kickstarter is Total Party Kill Games' Wardens of the Wild, a 200+ page book all about elves with more lore and options for elves for both Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.

Well that's it for this week. I'll see you next week with more looks at Paizo's top ten list as well as new and trending Pathfinder products that should be on your radar.

Pathfinder 3pp Top Ten, May 27 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list as well as new and trending products that catch my attention.

Here is the Top Ten list.

1. Kineticists of Porphyra 3 - Purple Duck Games

2. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

3. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

4. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

5. Everyman Options: Kineticists - Rogue Genius Games

6. Way of the Wicked-Book #1: Knot of Thorns - Fire Mountain Games

7. Hypercorps 2099 - Legendary Games

8. In the Company of Unicorns - Rite Publishing

9. Ultimate Psionics -Dreamscarred Press

10. In the Company of Treants - Rite Publishing

Once again its a week of Kineticists as Kineticist products take 4 out of the 5 top slots. This has been happening for weeks and it shows that the class has really taken everyone by storm. Perhaps it's the new way of "casting". Perhaps it's the similarities to the Avatar series.  Whatever it is Kineticists are still a hot ticket. Purple Duck Games proved themselves with three excellent products and Everyman Options has been a fan favorite for a while leading in to new options. Recently Legendary Games even announced their own Kineticist book, and with the class trending high I'm sure I'll see it here soon.

One on One Adventures keeps it's number two slot. For anyone who wants to play at the table with friends but doesn't have enough consistent people on board, this is the perfect product to get your game on with only one GM and one PC. Filling out those kind of needs is what third party publishing is best for. I'm only crossing my fingers for a Fighting Fantasy-like adventure where you need no GM at all.

Way of the Wicked, the popular Adventure Path that is specifically for villainous PCs makes it to the list again. Another niche that rarely gets filled and has nearly a 100% rate of five star reviews among 19 reviews.

Hypercorps 2099 has made it to the list allowing players to play in a cyber-fantasy superhero game. Its full of fluff (fluff that is already impacting my games), tons of NPC and monster stat blocks, the exciting Hypernet, a digital plane of existence full of hackers, spam and virtual reality fun, a new system of being hyper powered beings and two new classes that do what hasn't been done before, including being a Flash like speedster.

Rite Publishing has already put out In the Company of Unicorns but their new race book, In the Company of Treants, has quickly risen to the list too. Instead of just some leafy people you can be a full fledged ent. In fact there are three entire new races of treefolk. Rite Publishing has never failed to produce race books that were evocative and mechanically interesting so I have high hopes for both of these products.

And Lastly Ultimate Psionics is back on the list. The popular remake of 3.5's Psionics has had a place on the list almost constantly for years so seeing it on the list is a familar and welcome sight. Ultimate Psionics is the one stop product for introducing psionics into your game with new classes races and other options along with a whole new system of mind magic that uses points instead of slots.

As far as other things catching my eye this week:

Dreamscarred Press has released their first Steelforge book. I got this from DP's Patreon and it looks pretty good. New magic and psionic items and some big 6 magic items for different slots for greater versatility. There's also new rules for handling magic items and a new prestige class.

Jon Brazer Enterprises has a new book for Arcanists detailing new normal and greater exploits.

Abandoned Arts has been under the Fat Goblin Games banner lately; Abandoned Arts being a publisher known for having products that get a lot done in a little amount of time. They're continuing their More Feats! line with Feats of Discipline. This product promises feats for monks, martial artists and ki users.

Flaming Crab Games has put out a new Letters from the Flaming Crab that handles a subject that I'm very interested in that I think isn't covered very often. Hygiene.  This is going on my wishlist fast enough to leave skid marks on the website out of pure novelty but given previous Flaming Crab letter I've seen in the past I have high hopes that this will revolutionize my games.

Little Red Goblin Games has put out The Godhand, a class that grafts a minor deity to their arm? I'm not sure what to think by looking at the cover text but I can't say that I'm not interested.

Another hybrid class (Bard/Occultist) has made its way out of Shattered Skies from Wayward Rogues Publishing, in the form of the Librarian. This looks like the most interesting hybrid class from this series and really I hope someday to see all these in one book or something.

Rogue Genius Games, under the banner of Four Horsemen Presents, has produced Living Magic Items, intelligent items to spice up your games, a subject that isn't aptly explored in my opinion so I'm very excited. Best part yet, you get to PLAY a magic item. Forget my wishlist, this is going into my shopping cart now. Probably along with Flaming Crab's Hygiene book. Also from Rogue Genius Games is a continuation of the Talented class series with The Talented Cleric.

Well that's it for this week. I'll see you next week with more looks at Paizo's top ten list as well as new and trending Pathfinder products that should be on your radar.

3pp Top Ten: May 20, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list as well as new and trending products that catch my attention.

1. Kineticists of Porphyra 3 - Purple Duck Games

2. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

3. Everyman Options: Kineticists - Rogue Genius Games

4. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

5. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

6. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

7. Hypercoprs 2099 - Legendary Games

8. Ships of Skybourne - Drop Dead Studios

9. Way of the Wicked-Book #1: Knot of Thorns - Fire Mountain Games

10. In the Company of Unicorns - Rite Publishing

Once again its another week of Kineticists. With all three Kineticists of Porphyra books and Rogue Genius Games' Keneticists options we have almost half of the top ten slots taken by Kineticist centered books. Everyman Options: Kineticists is more of a short and to the point addition to the class while Purple Duck Games' offerings go large and widespread doling out a ton of wild talents and archetypes to work with. During the playtest for the occult classes the Kineticist thread was by far the largest, and both then and now the class has been controversial for it's ability to functionally have at-will magic while at the same time critics have noted that it's damage output is relatively low and its less versatile than a traditional caster. All of this has combined for chatter about how broken or weak the Kineticist is but the constant domination in sales do show that there is a large market for the Kineticist, as it now stands to be the most developed new class in Occult classes by pure support.

One on One Adventures, a book that allows you to play with one GM and one Player without having to worry about the one player being overwhelmed by might or magic that it can't handle, is still in high standings. Meanwhile Knot of Thorns keeps on the list. Although very popular before the Way of the Wicked Adventure Path may be picking up steam with the current interest in evil adventure paths, especially since there are so few and few that do it so well.

This is also a good week for products from Kickstarters I've participated in. Hypercorp 2099 is now out and is already affecting my current Spacefinder campaign. Although there are new rules and options for playing a superhero cyberpunk campaign and an interesting setting the book also serves a wonderful toolbox for any post-modern setting, full of NPCs, organizations and even a few new classes. Skybourne has been out for a few weeks but the setting won me over back at the first kickstarter, however Ships of Skybourne is the real hot ticket right now where you can just get the rules for running and constructing airships in a way that's fun for the whole party.

In the Company of Unicorns continues Rite Publishing's habit of having strange and spectacular race books with plenty of options to keep it fun for a long time.

Little Red Goblin Games is off the list despite Gonzo 2 being cool as hell but there's a new contender out there. They've presented a fighter rewrite. I'm excited to see how it turns out and hope that it remains compatible with the great fighter material we've seen over the years.

Playground Adventures, publishers of the Playground Adventures series, a set of adventures that are more kid-friendly than usual, had started putting out some player content with The Royal base class. I'm thinking of a Noble made into an actual class.

Rusted Iron Games has put out material that was short but very admirable, with their Deadly Gardens series pulling a lot of bang for the buck for pushing a new plant themed monster but presenting it along with a bunch of items that brings the whole thing together. It looks like their up to the same with Deadly Gardens: Mulch Stalker.

Epic Level NPC, LLC is a company I'm not familiar with but one product drew my attention. Kaiju Beastiary Kamon the Living Mountain.  Supposedly we get a new monster, that has a city (with city stats) inside of it. This is the kind of crazy off the wall GM tools that I love to see out of third party products so I'm all game.

And lastly Fat Goblin Games releases a new installment of it's Astonishing Races series with a new book on Fetchlings.

Well that's it for this week. I'll see you next week with more looks at Paizo's top ten list as well as new and trending Pathfinder products that should be on your radar.

3pp Top Ten: May 13, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list as well as new and trending products that catch my attention.

1. Kineticists of Porphyra 3 - Purple Duck Games

2. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

3. Ships of Skybourne - Drop Dead Studios

4. In the Company of Unicorns - Rite Publishing

5. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

6. Treasury of Winter - Legendary Games

7. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

8. Everyman Options: Kineticists - Rogue Genius Games

9. Way of the Wicked-Book #1: Knot of Thorns - Fire mountain Games

10. The Genius Guide to the Talented Bard

Once again this week, Kineticists interest is up. Not only do we have all three Kineticists of Porphyra (With a compilation/expansion down the pipe) but Rogue Genius Games is getting in on the action with Everyman Options: Kineticists.  The Kineticists of Porphyra  series seriously catches the Kineticist op to other older classes with new material to fill in the blanks and round out more obscure 'elements' like poison and light before giving new tools to give the Kineticist a huge range of things to do outside of being just another blaster caster. This is done with new items, new archetypes and of course a ton of wild talents. Not only that but you also get a few NPC stat blocks so you can drop a few in campaign for players to befriend or fight. The series has been popular for weeks now and as noted in my reviews of Kineticists of Porphyra 1 and 2 they are awesome. Everyman Games is well known for innovation and with it's recent merge with Rogue Genius Games, another fantastic crunch producer, and the excellent crunch writer Alexander Augunas, Everyman Options: Kineticists is in fantastic hands.

One on One Adventures is still in full steam proving the popularity of it's concept. you have one GM and one PC with adventures that take care to cater to the needs and vulnerabilities of specific class types so that they don't steamroll or get steamrolled by the adventure at hand. If you don't have a full table or want to make a very weird interesting date night then this is a must have.

Drop Dead Studios is pumping out finished products from their Skybourne kickstarter campaign kicking off with a full set of airship rules which include construction and manning. Some will want it so that they can evoke a JRPG flavor the likes of Final Fantasy or Skies of Arcadia or you may want to run a bunch of animal folk in an art deco pulpy serial adventure(a gold star for anyone that got that reference), but either way airships are awesome and you want them in your game whether you're a sky pirate, delivery boy or on a macguffin quest.

Rite Publishing has a long track record of race books that have evocative fluff, solid crunch and giving you to play creatures that are usually relegated to the realm of monsters. With In the Company of Unicorns you get to be the beast and play as a unicorn.

Treasury of Winter is a part of Legendary Game's winter subgroup of products meant to play up Slavic snowy flavors that fit well in premises like Reign of Winter. This product gives you 24 pages of awesome items to put into your wintery campaigns with a slavic folklore flair.

Before there was Paizo's current adventure path, Hell's Vengeance there was Fire Mountain Game's Way of the Wicked, an adventure path where you play as the villain instead of a wimpy do-gooder. So you can fight off adventurers, kidnap princesses, and whatever the opposite of slaying a dragon is in an epic quest to do bad.

Rogue Genius Games has put out a new installment of their Talented Class line of pdfs, this time the Bard gets a treatment. If you're unfamiliar with the series, a talented class is a base class with most of it's class features and archetype abilities broken up into a list of talents and sometimes more powerful 'edges' leaving the base class to be mostly a hollow template that takes these talents and edges. This way you can modularly build your class however you want wich results in spell-less witches, non-raging barbarians, and monks that shoot DBZ fireballs. The series has been very well recieved and so far the Fighter, Monk, Rogue, Cavalier, Witch, and Barbarian have gotten their talented treatments before the Bard. Don't forget to also pick up More Bard Talents, if you like where this is all going and especially don't forget the nearly complete Kickstarter, The Talented Bestiary.

The big thing to take away from the list this week is that there's no sign of Dreamscarred Press. This is a huge change in the status quo, especially for Ultimate Psionics which is almost always on the list. Although to be fair with Path of War material so high in the past weeks it may be lurking just under the bottom right now and the four different Kineticists books may be pushing it down.

Speaking of which, Kineticists is the current bubble starting with Purple Duck Games but there are other products that could get on the action soon, including hybrid classes related to the Kineticist and Kineticist options from Rogue Genius Games.

Way of the Wicked was a recent resurgence, possibly with people playing Hell's Vengeance and wanting more or looking for something of the same flavor but in a different setting. Either way we're looking at the summer of villains

Legendary Games has put out something for their Egyptian line that follows  an interesting premise. Reincarnated characters. Besides, I think, one race the subject of reincarnation isn't very covered so I am all kinds of excited and it's going right on my wish list. Also from Legendary Games is Part 1 and Part 2 of their new Trail of the Apprentice campaign.  This is part of their Legendary Beginnings line with adventures geared towards newer players and is particularly suitable for Paizo's Beginner Box.

Relatively recently Abandoned Arts started to fall under the Fat Goblin Games banner and has started releasing new material for that company. One of these is the recent Feats of War, which contains new feats for siege engineers and pilots. This is another subject that is somewhat underrepresented so it goes on the wish list.

Once again a new hybrid class comes from Wayward Rogues Publishing's Shattered Skies setting with the Incarnate Hybrid Class, inspired by cosmic horror.

Little Red Goblin Games has put out The Fighting Man-A Required Rebuild for the Fighter. Now I'm in the middle of  writing a review for the massive Gonzo 2 and it is so far the very definition of fun so I may just be drunk on LRGG's design aesthetics, but I am adding this to my wishlist with the intent to buy at my first convenience. Which is a big deal for me because I spent a lot of time building resources to balance out martials and casters and gathering material that helps the Fighter class in particular so I don't exactly need this. But it's very likely a wild ride so I'll get on board to see what it's like.

Well that's it for this week. I'll see you next week with more looks at Paizo's top ten list as well as new and trending Pathfinder products that should be on your radar.

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

3pp Top Ten: May 8, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

This week I'm trying a different approach to how I talk about the list. Normally I discuss it in each entry but with so many consistent sellers that make the list I am running out of ways to talk about the same product so instead I'll discuss the list in general after showing the list grouping by company.

1. Kineticists of Porphyra 3 - Purple Duck Games

2. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

3. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

4. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

5.  In the Company of Unicorns - Rite Publishing

6. Treasury of Winter - Legendary Games

7. Ships of Skyborne - Drop Dead Studios

8. Gonzo 2 - Little Red Goblin Games

9. Kineticists of Porhyra - Purple Duck Games

10. Way of the Wicked-Book #1: Knot of Thorns - Fire Mountain Games

Kineticists of Porphyra 1, 2, and 3 have all made it to the list again making for a strong showing for Kineticist interest. It definitely crowds up the list but I already know 1 and 2 are really good books. One fills in some blanks giving Kineticists some options that were inevitable but balanced and fun. The second book takes things up a notch by evolving the concept and with more esoteric elements, new fun archetypes and a ton of wild talents that give a lot of range to what the Kineticist can do.

One on On Adventures is still the top adventure related product this week, and I understand completely. The product is adventures for one GM and one PC that takes the time and care to cater to the needs of a lone class when it comes to what kind of challenges to apply. Not only that but with one GM and one PC you can play without having to organize a large and probably flaky group with lives that prevent time for gaming. The concept is not only a solid one but the adventures are well made for it's context.

Dreamscarred Press stays on the list with Path of War Expanded, the expansion to the popular Path of War. If you liked the old Book of 9 Swords this series blows it out of the water with diverse maneuvers, goodies for classes outside of the maneuver-based classes and even psionic support. Fans of Path of War have a good time because now their fighting classes can be versatile and powerful like the casting classes.

Rite Publishing has made some steller race books. If their title In the Company of Monsters is any indication (as well as a few other race books I've picked up like In the Company of Henge) then not only is In the Company of Unicorns evocative and full of flavor but gives plenty of solid crunch to bring the subject to life in your games to make for a balanced experience.

Treasury of Winter Gives you a cache of items for a wintery campaign as part of their Winter Plug-in line. These items are meant to be great additions to wintery slavic leaning adventures like Reign of Winter.

I got my hands on Ships of Skyborne from the Kickstarter (review pending) and it is pretty glorious. This expands the concept seen in the stat air ship stat block Ultimate Combat to all new levels letting you make all kinds of vehicles and customize them. I especially reccomend this if you're running any kind of Final Fantasy inspired campaign. Also don't forget to check out the Players Guide to Skyborne, which opens up a beautiful and intriguing world to play in.

Gonzo 2 picks up where Gonzo 1 left off but is bigger, badder and way crazier. These are straight up brand new ways to play by taking seriously the most silly concepts, like a Battle Butler, Henshin Hero, Magical Girl, or Sparkle Princess. Beyond that you get rules for giant robots, drugs, magic items, and much much more.

Way of the Wicked is back on the map for the second week. Probably related to the fact that Paizo's Hell's Vengeance is halfway through. This is the first book in an adventure path where you get to be bad. Its a big book where instead of being a pansy do-gooder you get to be evil. And why stop there? Every book in the series has great reviews so show them who's boss as you kidnap princesses, kill kings, and get revenge and show those villains that keep getting defeated by unwashed heroes how it's really done.

As far as other things that have caught my eye;

Interjection Games has put out Ultimate Runesmithing on Paizo.com now. This was put on my wishlist last week for a few reasons. Firstly Interjection Games is consistantly fantastic when it comes to crunch for new classes. The classes always at least grant a new play experience with a lot of options per class which cover new concepts or new assumptions. Secondly the description for Runesmithing is intriguing. Although my preference in regards to runes has been as a door for non-casters to use a little magic the description leads me to be reminded of Akashic Mysteries and believe that we'll get something unique out of it.

Ponyfinder has put out the Everglow Bestiary. This is a huge boon because I've just been calling kobolds Diamond Dogs and made some pallet swaps for Pony games.

Sherwood: The Legend of Robin Hood is a setting book that doesn't seem that exciting but it promises means to play the setting in a 'historic mode' that leaves out magic and deliver a type of action point system for mundane derring dos so it may be a stealth hit for anyone wanting to play in a magic-less game.

I've talked about Rhune's Campaign Guide as my possible foothold in the setting but I thought I'd mention it again because the little I've seen of the setting the basic premise is very interesting. In a nutshell it's 'Nordic Dungeonpunk' which is a quick way to sell me because I like everything about that phrase.

As the kickstarter project starts to wrap up we're seeing a lot more releases for Hypercorps 2099.  Keep an eye out for the full book eventually where we get new rules and subsystems for superhero/cyberpunk shenanigans, including a mythic like overlay for superpowers with even Spheres of Power support.

The Four Horsemen banner continues the Horrifically Overpowered Feats line with a new book. The previous iterations were pretty popular so if you're a fan this is a nice pick.

Legendary Games presents a hybrid class of Witch and Gunslinger with their release of Legendary Hybrids: Deadeye Hexer. Now a hexslinger is a concept that I've seen a few times in third party archetypes so I don't know how I'll react to a class dedicated to the concept but Legendary Games is consistently good for class support so I'm putting it in my wishlist for further consideration.

Another shoutout to Technology Unleashed as one of the few straight tech books out there. This is somewhat at the top of my buylist purely because I'm running a scifi campaign and as such it's going to move up on my review list for better or worse.

If you're really still into Kineticists after three entire books dedicated to them or if you just want one book and leave it at that, check out Rogue Genius Game's support with Everyman Options: Kineticists. Everyman products are consistently innovative and cleanly written so you can't go wrong here, especially with Alexander Augunas at the helm.

Well that's it for this week. I'll see you next week with more looks at Paizo's top ten list as well as trending products that should be on your radar.

3pp Top Ten, April 30 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. One on One Adventures  Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

One on One is a product compiling adventures for one GM and one PC. It takes the time and care to tailor each adventure around the needs of particular types of classes so that the PC doesn't get overwhelmed. Once again it makes it to the top of the top ten list after a long stint of being the only adventure on the list.

2. Kineticists of Porphyra 3 - Purple Duck Games

3. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

4. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

Purple Duck Games gets another three of a kind with it's Kineticists of Porphyra series. These books take the Kineticists and gives new elements, new items, new talents, NPC stat blocks and archetypes to fill in blanks for the Kineticist before completely evolving the class with a plethora of options. Fans of the Kineticist will be thrilled to have them.

5. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

Continuing where the popular Path of War left off, this book builds even more spectacular options for it's new martial system including archetypes, new classes and even psionic options.

6. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

Ultimate Psionics gives you what you need and much more to bring psionics to your game. It has been seen as the gold standard for what third party products can be and what they can do for your game. Not just a bunch of new classes Psionics offers a whole new and innovative system of non-magic magic that adds flavor and new ways to play.

7. Way of the Wicked-Book #1: Knot of Thorns - Fire Mountain Games

Knot of Thorns is the first book in the Way of the Wicket Adventure Path. Its a huge book that starts you on an adventure of vengeance where you and the rest of the party are evil. This is a rare opportunity to break out your Anti-Paladin builds and use those evil options with a book with 17 five star reviews (and two four star reviews).

8. Gonzo 2 - Little Red Goblin Games

I haven't read enough to make a full review (yet) but Gonzo 2 deserves it's place on the list for the sheer amount of content and imagination it puts on the table. I mean, this book is HUGE and has content like giant robot rules, a Sparkle Princess class, and a Henshin Hero class. Like a lot of LRGG releases this can er on the side of goofy sometimes but whats a game without a little fun. Get this book if you want to go crazy with your games.

9. Mythic Monsters 37: Robots - Legendary Games

Honestly I have played exactly two sessions with mythic rules so Legendary Games' mythic material usually goes way below my rader. But the line has been popular enough where I've heard that Mythic isn't worth playing without Legendary Games so there's enough praise to warrant it's place on the lsit.

10. Occult Archetypes - Legendary Games.

Legendary Games brings up more options for Occult Adventure classes as well as new rules and options for making your game more occult.

The 'Winner' of the week is definitely Purple Duck Games. The Kineticists of Porhphyra series is proving to be quite the cash cow and has made up the bulk of the Kineticist representation on the list for a while now. While Occult Archetypes brings way more bang for the buck that you'd expect it only covers so much so if you collect the KoP series and Occult Archetypes the Kineticist will be way ahead in terms of diversity.

Gonzo 2 is a new player and by description it seems like the 'Deadpool' of third party books but the classes and options are mechanically pretty legit and give you unique ways to play things out. This one is definitely one that you want a hard copy of. I know I'm ordering one.

There is a lot of representation for adventures this week and last week and Way of the Wicked seems to be climbing in popularity. Its been around for a while with lots of chatter on Paizo's forums so I've been seeing praises of it all around.

Recently I noticed Skortched Urf's Technology Unleashed.  I'm a bit wary of the product because of some previous releases leaving a bad taste in my mouth, but I'll given anything with technology a shot. Besides, its possible that the company has grown and evolved since Mega Feats so I might as well take a look.

I've admired Rhune from afar. Storm Bunny Studios has a setting that looks like your typical steam dungeonpunk thing with a Norse myth bent which could be appealing enough but I never got into it. Their new Dawn of Twilight Campaign Guide may change that because it looks like there's finally a book that's a one stop shop for what you need to really get into the setting instead of a bunch of smaller products that don't exactly speak to me. I would love to see how it stacks up to releases like Pure Steam and Thunderscape. I've been interested in how the Nordic slant pulls everything together but never had anything that pull everything into one cohesive product. On the same note, Stormbunny is working with Mike Myler to produce a eastern steampunk campaign setting for 5th edition. This does lead me to wonder where Fat Goblin Game's Steampunk Musha went.

Interjection Games has put out Ultimate Runesmithing, something that's going straight onto my wishlist. If Strange Magic is any indication this looks very promising and possibly the spiritual successor to the artificer that I've been wanting. Interjection Games always has tight crunch with innovative mechanics so I'm excited.

Top 10 April 28, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

One on One Adventures is finally at the top and leading the adventure trend this week. This products facilitates play with 1 GM and 1 Player allowing you to keep going when you're short on players. Its also very thoughtful of the needs and limitations of types of classes for the adventures.

2. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

KoP2 continues where Kineticists of Porphyra left off only this time instead of grid filling it innovates and evolves making the Kineticist have a greater range of uses.

3. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

Kineticists of Porphyra brings out familiar tropes to expand the Kineticist in directions that are expected but bring the young class up to speed in diversity.

4. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

Path of War was the popular answer to martial classes getting nice things and this book expands it with more maneuvers, more diciplines and more options for the rest of the classes including psionic support.

5. Kineticists of Porphyra 3 - Purple Duck Games

KoP3 continues the current reign of Kineticist as Purple Duck Games continues to innovate the class.

6. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

Once again Ultimate Psionics stays on the list. Its place is well deserved as one of the most recommended third party books ever because of it's amazing crunch and bringing Psionics to Pathfinder.

7. Occult Archetypes - Legendary Games

Finally we get some material for the rest of the Occult Adventures classes. New archetypes all around. Review for this one is pending.

8. Wrath of the River King - Kobold Press

Kobold Press gets back on the list with an adventure, bringing more GM material. Its about time.

9. Pathfinder Paper Minis: The Emerald Spire Superdungeon - Pathfinder Paper Minis

As kind of a hardcover module the Emerald Spire has cards to aid with running it but no pawns. Thsi product seeks to solve that problem by giving us some low cost methods of creating minis for the epic superdungeon.

10. Way of the Wicked-Book #1: Knot of Thorns - Fire Mountain Games

Way of the Wicked has always had quite a bit of chatter on the Paizo forums and it seems that it's popularity has caught up to it. Making it to the top ten list is the first part of an adventure path for those that want to use some of those evil options.

One on One Adventures is finally at the top but more than that we now have three adventures hitting the list with Way of the Wicked and Wrath of the River King. I'm happy to see this change in trends because I am actually kind of tired of character options. I like seeing a bit more out of adventures and GM oriented books.

Kineticists seem like a hot topic or the Purple Duck Games expansions are that good. Either way these are great picks but we also have Occult Archetypes to fill in for the rest of the psychic classes. By the way I totally called it on KoP3.

Speaking of Porphyra we also have Psychic Warriors of Porphyra.

Ultimate Psionics seems to be a huge champion in staying power with a pretty persistent position on the list.

Since you all love Dreamscarred Press, don't forget to check out their Monster Class series including the recently released Fey class. This series has the premise of taking a monster and turning it into a class, much like the Paragon classes from Rite Publishing's race books.

Under the Four Horsemen banner Rogue Genius Games has put out some rough and tumble opponents with Minmaxed Monsters. This book promises some monsters that are as ruthlessly built as some of the more dastardly players that hate to lose.

If you loved Thunderscape as much as I did you'll be happy to see that there is a new addition to the adventure Lost Lexicon. Catch up with it so you can get your hands on part 3; Through Plague and Fire.

If you love Pathfinder Kickstarters then boy do I have a doozy for you. Rogue Genius Games currently looking for funding for The Talented Bestiary, promising a whole new way to make your monsters with new building blocks reminiscent of the Talented series of classes to build the creature you want. I for one am very excited by this project. Owen K Stevens has proven himself a master crunch writer with an eye for innovation that doesn't completely disrupt the game and the prospect of a book that makes creating monster stat blocks easier is always win for me. I'm sure this will be a staple on my book shelf. The project is fully funded right now but there are always stretch goals to achieve.

3pp Top Ten April 21, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

KoP has finally overtaken it's sequel and even made it to the top of the list. This one expands the list of Kineticist elements to light, sound and time but also gives a huge amount of wild talents both in support of the new elements and giving more diversity to existing elements., plus it has a few NPCs, feats and archetypes. Its basically a must have for people who love to play around with the Kineticist.

2. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

Path of War Expanded continues what Path of War started and remains popular. If you love Path of war then you'll love this one.

3. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

Kineticists of Porphyra 2 is still on the list. This one steps up the game from grid-filling to evolution making this spot well deserved.

4. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

Once again the only adventure entry is One on One Adventures proving the concept of one GM and one PC very popular.

5.  The Diviner's Handbook - Drop Dead Studios

I really like thes little expansions for Spheres of Power. Thy're actually quite a bit of bang for the buck. They're about 30 pages of content with Archetypes, options, a heavy expansion of both advanced and basic talents in both content and design, feats, traits, racial traits, monsters, and equipment. Seriously if you got and really liked Sphere of Power you really want to get these books

6. Occult Archetypes - Legendary Games

The review from me about this is pending but Legendary Games has a great reputation for quality so I'm not surprised to see this book on the list.

7. Path of War - Dreamscarred Press

Path of War remains popular not just as a book but as a series meeting it's offspring on the top ten list.

8. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

I'm actually a bit surprised that Ultimate Psionics is still on the list. Don't get me wrong, its probably the most well recieved third party product for Pathfinder of all time but for as often that it's on the top ten list I would have figured that anyone that was interested would have already bought it by now.

9. Kineticist Codex - Purple Duck Games

Well Purple Duck Games has managed to get triple placement on the list with it's book of Kineticist NPCs. Not only that but it's a 'three of a kind' involving the Kineticist.

10. The Destroyer's Handbook - Drop Dead Studios

Another expansion to Spheres of Power. This time the Destruction Sphere gets some love with new basic and advanced magic, archetypes and much more.

For Purple Duck Games we have a lot of love for the Kineticist. More noteworthy is that we get a new GM focused product on the list with the Kineticist Codex. Don't forget that Kineticists of Porphyra 3 is now out and will probably contribute more to the Kineticist train over at Purple Duck Games.

Spheres of Power is thriving on the list with new expansions but unlike Path of War Expanded and Kineticist of Porphyra 2 the preceding book isn't on the list.

If you're missing The Talented Witch from the list, there's a chance to get Rogue Genius Games some sales now that The Talented Bard is out continuing the very nice series of class rewrites. Also from Rogue Genius Games we have new sillier options under the Four Horsemen imprint as Comedic Character Options. Also from Four Horsemen is a continuation of the Horrifically Overpowered Feats line of books.

Fat Goblin Games has put out the newest edition of it's Astonishing Races series, this time covering Catfolk. If it works out as well as the Grippli book I would say that this one definitely deserves a buy.

Misfit Studios held a kickstarter a while back and now the results are trickling in starting with Strange Brew: The Warlock.

A while ago Little Red Goblin Games produced a book called Gonzo which features some of the craziest options you could pick up including a 'Toon' class. Taking things up a notch Gonzo 2 is out forming a MONSTROUS book of over 400 pages which include a magical princess class and fricken giant robot rules. Basically lots of fuel to go nuts with.

3pp Top Ten, April 9, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

Once again the expansion of the popular Path of War hits the top. It being a very dense book it will take me a while to review it  but upon first glance it looks like it brings to the table much of what Path of War brought with more support for other classes and new toys to play with.

2. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

Kineticist of Porphyra 2 takes what the first book did and took things to another level. Despite being a relatively new class KoP2 makes the Kineticist a very diverse and interesting powerhouse.

3. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

Kineticists of Porphyra has been having a strong showing on the list for a while and for good reason. It takes a young glass and gives it a ton of options, many of which feel like natural parts of the class. Truly its persistent standing is a testament of the interest in the Kineticist.

4.  The Diviner's Handbook - Drop Dead Studios

The Diviners handbook expands on the popular Spheres of Power, specifically the Divination sphere. But it doesn't just give new talents but new archetypes, items and other options all for a fairly generous price.

5. Path of War - Dreamscarred Press

A popular answer to the real or percieved dominance of casting classes Path of War is often hailed as THE book of nice things for martials. Loads of fun to play and excellent crunch makes Path of War more than just a spiritual successor to 3.5's Book of 9 Swords but a powerhouse that keeps Dreamscarred Press on the map.

6. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

Once again One on One Adventures shows up as the only adventure on Paizo's top ten list. making it quite the impressive book. It takes great care and consideratrion in the needs of a class when it comes to designing adventures with one GM and one player making for interesting quest for when you only have two people to play.

7. Four Horsemen Present: Young Character Options - Rogue Genius Games

Rogue Genius games gives us new options for playing with young characters opening all new kinds of adventures.

8. In the Company of Dragons - Rite Publishing

Rite Publishing has always made excellent race books but this one makes some very special dreams come true by giving a fair and easy way to play as a Dragon, including a paragon class so you can really feel like a dragon.

9. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

Once again Psionics is on the list, still going strong despite being a top ten regular. All you need to start using psionics in your games, Ultimate Psioncs continues to touch hearts with it's great crunch and balanced approach to the interesting legacy that is psionics.

10. The Destroyer's Handbook - Drop Dead Studios

The Destroyer's Handbook makes it to the list to join it's sister. This one expands the destruction sphere from Spheres of Power. This has been out for a bit but perhaps the traction from The Diviner's handbook is giving it some publicity. Then there's the fact that Drop Dead Studios has a Patreon that releases this stuff

Dreamscarred Press seems to be doing very well with psionics and maneuvers bringing both interesting magic and interesting combat to games and making Dreamscarred Press a household name. In the Company of Dragons was a bit of a surprise since it's been out for quite a bit. I'm interested in what brought up the sharp revival. Spheres of Power hasn't made the list for a little while but it's expansions are creeping back onto the list. Kineticists of Porphyra is still going strong with two entries on the list.

Over on Drivethru RPG Rite Publishing's Metaventurer class continues to have a strong showing. As a silly April Fools product you may not want this in a normal game but we could all use a bit more fun.

Kobold Press's adventure Wrath of the River King and Midgard Campaign Setting seems to be selling well. Both are excellent additions to any GM's collection. Particularly the Midgard Campaign Setting, as it presents a very detailed and interesting world that links very well with other Kobold Press releases making for a very expansive setting.

Ponyfinder stays relevant and popular with Princess Luminance's Guide to the Pony Pantheon. If the deity section of the Ponyfinder Campaign setting was not enough this book will be sure to bring Everglow to life for you with more lore to make the world more expansive. My own character, a Unicorn Soulknife named Starcharmer has a lot to do in Everglow so look out for a Ponyfinder retrospective and a few purchases to appear on my upcoming review list, including the more recent Blood of the Elements.

Wayward Rogue's Publishing has been putting out hybrid classes under their Shattered Skies banner with the Empath consistently having a strong showing in popularity.

Don't forget to check out what appears to be the first Everyman Iconics, a book containing one iconic character with several stat blocks over 20 levels. Rogue Genius Games has also put out a guide to Venerable Character Options, so in addition to the whipper snappers and older folks you have the REALLY old folks to play with too, making it worthwhile to play something other normal adults for a change.  Fat Goblin Games continues it's Call to Arms series with Ceremonial Masks. With previous Call to Arms books being fairly good there's no doubt that this book will bring a lot of punch to it's chosen subject and make you think a little bit more about masks in your games.

That's it for this week. Tune in later for more commentary. This week has some great things coming out or growing in popularity.  Soon I'll be scheduling my purchases and noting what I buy and what I bought as part of my weekly list, although this will probably occur once a season or when Kickstarters start to fire.  Speaking of Kickstarters, the past week has seen some news from the the recently ended Crisis of the World Eater from LPJ, and I'm anticipating some news from the Aethera campaign.

I'm thinking of expanding my scope to Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition since the 3pp scene for that has been growing and I've gotten more familiar with the game. The game I'm in is on hiatus but i may wind up starting my own once I find the right time slot and what kind of campaign I want to play. It'll most likely be Rise of the Runelords. When I do I'll start writing a bit more about 5th edition and start purchasing third party products for that as well. For now let me hear from you. Post down below to tell me what Pathfinder third party product you've bought in the past week and if you liked it. If you have some third party products from 5th edition, give me some recommendations so I can know where to start.

3pp Top Ten: April 4, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

With the previous book being so popular it is expected that the expansion to Path of War is right at the top. As I read through it brings you more of the same while bringing in exciting new maneuvers and archetypes galore.

2. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

I have a review of KoP2 coming out later today and while I feel that it is as glorious as it's predecessor it goes in new directions to keep the formula fresh. This also marks part two overtaking part one.

3. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

Porphyran Kineticists continue their double standing in the top ten list proving interest in the Kineticist in general. It's thread was probably the most popular in the playtest for Occult Adventures and it's popularity seems to stand with a new way of dealing with magical powers through talents instead of spells.

4. Path of War - Dreamscarred Press

Currently one of the most popular answers to the call for martials to get nice things. Bringing back Book of 9 Swords style maneuvers Path of War brings in devastating, versatile and fun warriors to match up to pervasive and world changing magic that populates the game.

5. The Diviner's Handbook - Drop Dead Studios

Spheres of Power comes back to the list with the latest expansion giving us more archetypes, talents and other options. Spheres of Power had a long reign within the top ten list before so its nice to see it back. I was able to get this one thanks to Drop Dead Studio's Patreon as one of the rewards. Even occult classes are starting to get archetypes making it even easier to replace spells with spheres.

6. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Games

Solo adventures continue to have a strong standing with One on One Adventures being the only adventure based product on the list. Not only that but the only non player option book on the board this time.

7.  The Genius Guide to More Witch Talents - Rogue Genius Games

The Genius Guide to the Talented Witch is succeeded by more options to boost it up. If you got the first book and enjoyed it then this is a must-have.

8. New Paths 8: The Trickster - Kobold Press

I've been reading this product more and as I do I love it as much as the previous New Path classes from New Paths Compendium. That book is one I consider to be a must-have for anyone looking to expand Pathfinder while retaining it's feel and design so this one is obviously a nice welcome and it's popularity is encouraging.

9. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

Psionics, as always, maintains a tight grip on the list. The popularity of Dreamscarred Press shows up all over the place. Even gamers that denounce third party products wholesale tend to like this one so it's continued existence on the top ten list makes a lot of sense. It also doesn't help that it is an exciting and well balanced piece of work that continues to be the gold standard in quality.

10. Four Horsemen Present: Young Character Options - Rogue Genius Games

This one is still on my wishlist but it looks interesting enough to land on the list. At least to me the concept of playing with a young character was novel because it doesn't really occur to me that it wasn't a thing but had a lackluster offering from Ultimate Campaign. I always like books that open up new gaming modes and flavor.

The list is shifting a bit more with only three Dreamscarred Press books on the list and two younger products entering the fray. Young Character Options is still pretty fresh so we can see how it does. Word of mouth may open it up to new customers as it is the most unique concept on the list; new rules for playing young'uns. One on One Adventures is still interesting being the only adventure product on the list.  I hope that in the future we'll see more adventures coming up, but beyond that I hope to see more GM centered books in general from campaign settings to new GM tools.

Over on DriveThruRPG.com the popular Pathfinder products seem to be a bit more diverse.

The Secrets of the Metadventurer - Rite Publishing has released a new metagaming adventurer that seems silly enough to work.

Ponyfinder is kicking up a bit of steam with The Gem Gnoll War, part two of a bigger adventure and Princess Luminace's Guide to the Pony Pantheon, a fluff book detailing divinity of Everglow. If you're going to the upcoming BABScon in Burlingame CA I personally know for a fact that there will be some people interested in Ponyfinder that may want in on a game. Speaking of fluff books, don't forget to check out Tribes of Everglow for more material to soothe your magical pony fix.

Coming along the heels of their new Young Character Options, Rogue Genius Games has also put out options for your old folks with Mature Character Options.

Kobold Press' Midgard Campaign Setting is picking up steam again. Although I'm more into settings that bring Pathfinder out of genre this is a pretty good setting with a lot of details hanging about a lot of Kobold Press Products.

If you like Spheres of Power but are too dependant on HeroLab to take advantage of third party options then rejoice because Spheres of Power has new Hero Lab files on sale.

Flying Pincushion has also put out new feats for their Tides of War line in Magus/X feats, a book on feats of multiclassing for the Magus class, right on the heels of their revision of the Into The Breach: The Magus book that was previously tackled when they were under d20pfsrd.com Publishing.

Following the popularity of Kineticists of Porphyra 2 I have some previews of part 3, thanks to writer N. Jolly

We have a new item called the Chamber of Compressed Time, a 4,000 gold item that reads:

Time is an ever flowing element that has no set form or shape, and yet controls all around it. There are certain places in the world that time manages to gather in a dense collection of memories and thoughts, a waypoint for both the future and the past which can alter one’s perception, causing them to perceive time differently. One such place is carved deep into a seemingly empty rockface, only the dull drip of water signifying anything beyond the mountain’s face.

The inside of this chamber is a dead magic zone, cut off from the rest of the world. Each minute spent inside of the chamber feels as though 10 years have passed for both body and mind. After spending 1 minute inside of the chamber, those inside of it must make a DC 10 fortitude and will save, staving off both the decay of their body and the ennui of their mind, suffering 1 Constitution or Wisdom damage on a failed save respectively. For each additional minute spent inside of this chamber, increase this DC by 3.

Those wishing to gain the power of this location must spend 5 minutes inside of the chamber, and may fail up to 4 saves before being unable to draw the power out of this location. Once you leave the chamber, the effects of it end, although any ability damage taken remains. Those who manage to do so gain a +2 circumstance to initiative checks due to their ability to perceive time. Kineticist who possess the time element gain access to the following wild talent:

Seize the Initiative
Element(s) time; Type utility (Su); Level 2; Burn --
Whenever you are able to act in the surprise round, you can take both a move and standard action

So basically a Hyperbolic Time chamber that gives you access to a new ability dealing with time. Exciting but not as exciting as the new mechanic coming out involving Elemental Mutations extending the theme of Elemental Overload with new options taken like Paladin oaths or Monk Vows. The one in the preview is:

Intelligent Mutation
The power of most kineticist is in their creativity, although some kineticist manage to express this in even more unique fashions, their education far surpassing their allies. These intelligent warriors have forsaken other ways of gaining power in a more physical sense.
Restrictions: Must have the gather power class feature

Benefit: Kineticists with this mutation gain two additional skill points per level, and can select 2 skills, treating them as class skills.

Drawback: The kineticist can only use their gather energy or supercharge class feature as a move action.

So keep an eye out for Kineticists of Porphyra 3 as it looks like rather than giving us more options of the same ole stuff Purple Duck Games seem committed to evolving the Kineticist beyond what it already is. I'm actually a little sad to see this news, not because I dislike Kineticists or the previous two books (my review of KoP2 later today states otherwise) but I'd like to see more diversity on the top ten list and I'm pretty sure I'm going to see three Kineticist books up there at some point.

And that's what's happening in the Pathfinder 3pp world. I'll see you next week.

3pp Top Ten: March 26, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

With the book finally completed the expansion to the already popular Path of War seems to be coming out with a bang. New classes, new disciplines, new maneuvers, if you were all aboard with the original Path of War  then you have more of the same only this time probably a bit better since Path of War had a few growing pains and in this one some clarifications come online, plus you get new archetypes for even psionic classes.

2. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

Kineticists of Porphyra is still killing it and probably for good reason. With the youth of the class there's a lot of obvious ground to cover and this product is timely in giving it to us.

3. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

With the first book selling KoP2 is an obvious addition to the list. Since last week I've been able to at least scan over this, thanks to writer N, Jolly, and this book brings a bunch of crunch threatening to give a simple elemental blaster as many options as a normal spellcaster. I look forward to taking a deeper look

4. The Genius Guide to the Talented Witch - Rogue Genius Games

It looks like the 'Talented' line of pdfs still have steam. Capable of making a witch where spells are an optional mechanic, this product lets you make a witch the way you want instead of a pet wizard.

5. New Paths 8: The Trickster - Kobold Press

Kobold Press' most recent class entry is still on the list  and for good reason. A 20 level arcane trickster that plays well with existing options is great. One can only hope that a New Paths Compendium 2 is around the corner.

6. Path of War - Dreamscarred Press

Well you can't have Path of War Expanded without the original so an obvious addition to the list with the spike gained from the expansion.

7. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expedious Retreat Press

Last week I mentioned the possible audience for one on one adventures with the tone that this was a rather niche audience. Well this product has been on the top ten list for a while so I guess it's way bigger than I implied. Want to start a game but all you have is that one buddy that doesn't flake. Here is a massive book to get your game on when players are a scarcity.

8. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

Once again Ultimate Psionics stays on the list being a constant reminder of how many people haven't already bought this already and the impressive amount of word of mouth that Dreamscarred Press has about their quality and scope.

9. Four Horsemen Present - Hybrid Class: Shifu - Rogue Genius Games

This actually got in my hands recently although I have barely looked at it. The description makes it's popularity obvious thought. This is the third kineticist related  book on the list.

10.  Psionic Bestiary - Dreamscarred Press

With the Ultimate Psionics being the psionic core rulebook You're definitely going to need the psionic bestiary to fill in  monsters to make your games more psionicy.

Again Dreamscarred Press has a whopping four entries on the top ten list.

The most popular trend seems to be new classes or Kineticists but for sure player options as Psionic Bestiary and One on One Adventures seems to be the only GM focused books and the rest giving heavy amounts of crunch to players . Path of War is obviously back on the rise with a new product that makes the original more valuable.

The only one out is the Advanced Race Compendium to make room for Path of War Expanded. Other than that it looks like the list hasn't changed much. I am a bit curious about why the Shifu class from Rogue Genius games stands out  from the other hybrid classes Four Horsemen have put out. Personally I have a lot of base classes to deal with so throwing more on the list is exhausting so maybe the Kineticist relationship makes it unique enough to feel necessary or present a new experience. I'll have to take a good look when I review it to find out I guess.

New products that have caught my eye this week include;

Four Horsemen Present: Young Character Options - Rogue Genius Games

This one went on my wishlist because the option to play as a young character presented in Ultimate Campaign felt correct but didn't offer anything satisfying. seems like an appealing product for anyone who wants to play a kid campaign.

Into the Breach: The Magus - Flying Pincushion Games

Under the banner of d20pfsrd.com Publishing the Into the Breach series already covered the magus class but I thought it was awful. I never gave it a proper review because the series' first product, covering the Summoner was equally awful but got a vastly superior update and I was waiting in vain for an update for the magus book until I forgot about it completely.  Luckily there's a new version and I'll be doing a review on it soon to see if it redeems it's previous iteration.

Directive Infinity X - Gaming Paper

Endzeitgeist gave a five star review for this one and a modern fantasy adventure is right up my alley so it's going straight to my wish list..

Scorpions of Perdition - Legendary Games

My obsession with playing Pathfinder out of genre continues with Legendary Games' newest addition to their Metal Gods plug-ins. Of course it's in my wishlist now, along with Starfall as something to buy when we reach mid levels in my Infinity Matrix campaign.

Things are also shaking outside of Paizo's newsletter.

Another new product that doesn't suit my needs but is interesting is a mini codex of NPCs for the Legendary Planet campaign. Legendary games has been pretty busy with Occult archetypes, another product that allow the newer Occult classes to play option catch up.

So far Drop Dead Studios is on it's fourth book expanding it's popular Spheres of Power book with more archetypes, sphere talents and other options. The latest is The Diviner's Handbook which even has a new archetype for those into Occult Adventures. The Player's Guide to Skybourne is also finally released to the public from its successful Kickstarter. More on that later.

Wayward Rogues Publishing has been releasing hybrid classes at a steady pace lately with the latest being the Empath. I'm currently waiting to see if that is all collected into one bundle so I can check them all out at once.

The recent Everyman Games/Rogue Genius Games merger is paying off as a new bundle has hit with all of Everyman Games releases come in a $20 package. Even though I had roughly one third of the products it was still a great deal for me so I picked it up before they changed their minds.  You'll be seeing reviews eventually of everything here but I'll tell you now, if the rest of it is half as good as what I already have from Everyman Games then this is a crazy deal.

As you may have noticed I've stepped this weekly post to be more than just the top ten in the Paizo newsletter but the general happenings that I'm noticing when it comes to new products that catch my attention. Eventually this will extend a bit as the scope of the blog extends but for now I'm sticking with third party Pathfinder products.  So until next week where I'll bring you more current Pathfinder 3pp news.

3pp Top Ten: March 18th 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. New Paths 8: The Trickster - Kobold Press

I haven't reviewed this one yet but I have purchased and read it. I think it deserves it's spot on the list. The class has the appeal of a 20 level arcane trickster done right, filling in the same niche that other New Paths classes have filled like the Theurge and the Elven/Mystic Archer. It also doesn't try to be super fancy and sticks to it's premise so it's easy to see why it's on the list along with Kobold Press' deserved prestige giving it some weight.

2. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

I've reviewed this one. Like the Trickster it reeks of gridfilling in the sense that it pushes into a niche that I'm surprised wasn't in the rules to begin with. I've seen it on the list before so others must have liked it just as much. More than that it allows Kineticist, a rather recent class, to play catch-up with the plethora of options that the core classes enjoy.

3. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

Another one that I have but haven't reviewed. It may not seem like much but when you're sitting at a table waiting for 5 out of the six players that are a part of the campaign or when you spend months trying to wrangle three other people into one schedule for a game, the concept of running a solo adventure starts to get really appealing. The product also has quite a bit of thought in it as it tells you what kind of class each adventure is designed for so you don't run into issues where you can't survive because you don't have the right amount of hit points or spells.

4. Kineticists of Porphyra II - Purple Duck Games

Well we liked the first one so much they decided to do it again I guess. Big week for Purple Duck Games as the Kineticist has bought them two tickets to the top 10 list this week. Author N. Jolly can be found on the Paizo forums having a strong amount of communication with players which fuels the acceptance of these book. I don't have this one yet but it is going on my wishlist.

5. The Genius Guide to the Talented Witch - Rogue Genius Games

Yet another product I have that has no review yet. This one I picked up as a part of the Ultimate Witch and Warlock Kickstarter. If you don't know why this one is here; This is another installment of Rogue Genius Games' Talented series, breaking down classes into a series of choosable edges and talents, many taken from archetypes but plenty of original stuff as well, allowing players to piecemeal their class together and allow it to flourish as itself without the baggage of some of the class features imposed on it. This worked out great for the Fighter, Monk and Rogue in making them more effective and are some of my top picks in terms of power balancing with the others simply adding new ways to envision your Barbarian, Cavalier and Ranger, making this product's place on the list very obvious.

6. Four Horsement Presents - Hybrid Class: Shifu - Rogue Genius Games

I know next to nothing about this one but the description of Monks crossed with Kineticist has to be the epicenter of appeal as two dynamic fan favorites with troubled past iterations combine. This one is going on my wishlist despite potentially stepping on the toes of the Mystic from Amora Game. If it is as interesting as the Mystic then the spot is definitely deserved, and with the minds from Rogue Genius Games behind it, that may be a given.

7. Advanced Races Compendium - Kobold Press

Another product from Kobold Press but this one I don't have. When the Kickstarter launched I was in the final stages of preparing for my wedding so I was too short on cash to participate and missing out on this has been haunting my mind despite not having a urgency for new races. (no new campaign that would need them) And who can blame me, I loved the Advanced Feats, Deep Magic and New Paths and this product looks so slick. With over 20 races inside it's the only third party thing that really compares to Paizo's Advanced Race Guide. This has been on my wishlist since it first appeared on Paizo.com.

8. Path of War - Dreamscarred Press

One of the poster children of solutions to martial/caster disparity and a grand successor to Book of 9 Swords, Path of War was sure to be popular. It makes combat fun, dynamic and powerful and breaks away from the 'full attack or die' format that combat can fall into which has garnered a lot of love for the folks that want to take things up a notch.

9. Psionic Bestiary - Dreamscarred Press

The Psionic Bestiary brings in some psionic monsters to the game allowing GMs to make a setting or campaign feel like psionics really do exist rather than some weird espers running around in your fantasy land full of magic. This may not be that important with  the ability to rules psionics and magic as being the same thing but this is especially useful with the advent of psychic magic and creatures to differentiate the psionic from the psychic and also in settings where psionics is different from magic. As an essential companion to the psionics system in general it's place on the list is more than understandable.

10. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press.

The big king that has sat upon the top ten list for a long time, Ultimate Psionics clings and refuses to let go of the list after being usurped. And it makes sense. Dreamscarred Press' psionic books have been top tier of the 3pp Pathfinder world in many people's minds and Ultimate Psionics basically serves as the one stop 'Core Rulebook of Psionics'. Although more material has been released, Ultimate Psionics remains a huge book that singlehandedly gives you all you need to keep you busy with psionics for numerous campaigns.

After a long stint of crowding up the top 10 list there are finally no Spheres of Power related books. For a while it looked like Spheres of Power was set to battle Psionics off the list but now there are triple Dreamscarred Press products. No doubt Spheres is lurking just outside the list waiting to strike although Dropdead Studios may see a surge once their product Skyborne starts hitting the shelves. Also potentially lurking is Strange Magic from Interjection Games, which had a heavy presence for a while.

This all makes me think about the popularity of alternate magic systems. Two popular products are only recently off the list  and the list itself shows some love for things beyond spells. The Kineticist is seeing a lot of attention with a hybrid class and two whole books full of new archetypes and powers. If not for the Trickster I could have thought that we were leaving behind spellcasting completely.

Company of the week is Dreamscarred Press but there is a lot of strong showings from Purple Duck, Rogue Genius Games, and Kobold Press as they each absorb more of the list with double products.
