3pp Top Ten, April 9, 2016

Every week Paizo sends out an email detailing the happenings of the Paizo store. This includes top 10 lists of what sells on their stores. Each week I'll be focusing on the list, 'Top 10 downloads from other companies' and commenting on the rise of the companies involved and changes of the list.

1. Path of War Expanded - Dreamscarred Press

Once again the expansion of the popular Path of War hits the top. It being a very dense book it will take me a while to review it  but upon first glance it looks like it brings to the table much of what Path of War brought with more support for other classes and new toys to play with.

2. Kineticists of Porphyra 2 - Purple Duck Games

Kineticist of Porphyra 2 takes what the first book did and took things to another level. Despite being a relatively new class KoP2 makes the Kineticist a very diverse and interesting powerhouse.

3. Kineticists of Porphyra - Purple Duck Games

Kineticists of Porphyra has been having a strong showing on the list for a while and for good reason. It takes a young glass and gives it a ton of options, many of which feel like natural parts of the class. Truly its persistent standing is a testament of the interest in the Kineticist.

4.  The Diviner's Handbook - Drop Dead Studios

The Diviners handbook expands on the popular Spheres of Power, specifically the Divination sphere. But it doesn't just give new talents but new archetypes, items and other options all for a fairly generous price.

5. Path of War - Dreamscarred Press

A popular answer to the real or percieved dominance of casting classes Path of War is often hailed as THE book of nice things for martials. Loads of fun to play and excellent crunch makes Path of War more than just a spiritual successor to 3.5's Book of 9 Swords but a powerhouse that keeps Dreamscarred Press on the map.

6. One on One Adventures Compendium - Expeditious Retreat Press

Once again One on One Adventures shows up as the only adventure on Paizo's top ten list. making it quite the impressive book. It takes great care and consideratrion in the needs of a class when it comes to designing adventures with one GM and one player making for interesting quest for when you only have two people to play.

7. Four Horsemen Present: Young Character Options - Rogue Genius Games

Rogue Genius games gives us new options for playing with young characters opening all new kinds of adventures.

8. In the Company of Dragons - Rite Publishing

Rite Publishing has always made excellent race books but this one makes some very special dreams come true by giving a fair and easy way to play as a Dragon, including a paragon class so you can really feel like a dragon.

9. Ultimate Psionics - Dreamscarred Press

Once again Psionics is on the list, still going strong despite being a top ten regular. All you need to start using psionics in your games, Ultimate Psioncs continues to touch hearts with it's great crunch and balanced approach to the interesting legacy that is psionics.

10. The Destroyer's Handbook - Drop Dead Studios

The Destroyer's Handbook makes it to the list to join it's sister. This one expands the destruction sphere from Spheres of Power. This has been out for a bit but perhaps the traction from The Diviner's handbook is giving it some publicity. Then there's the fact that Drop Dead Studios has a Patreon that releases this stuff

Dreamscarred Press seems to be doing very well with psionics and maneuvers bringing both interesting magic and interesting combat to games and making Dreamscarred Press a household name. In the Company of Dragons was a bit of a surprise since it's been out for quite a bit. I'm interested in what brought up the sharp revival. Spheres of Power hasn't made the list for a little while but it's expansions are creeping back onto the list. Kineticists of Porphyra is still going strong with two entries on the list.

Over on Drivethru RPG Rite Publishing's Metaventurer class continues to have a strong showing. As a silly April Fools product you may not want this in a normal game but we could all use a bit more fun.

Kobold Press's adventure Wrath of the River King and Midgard Campaign Setting seems to be selling well. Both are excellent additions to any GM's collection. Particularly the Midgard Campaign Setting, as it presents a very detailed and interesting world that links very well with other Kobold Press releases making for a very expansive setting.

Ponyfinder stays relevant and popular with Princess Luminance's Guide to the Pony Pantheon. If the deity section of the Ponyfinder Campaign setting was not enough this book will be sure to bring Everglow to life for you with more lore to make the world more expansive. My own character, a Unicorn Soulknife named Starcharmer has a lot to do in Everglow so look out for a Ponyfinder retrospective and a few purchases to appear on my upcoming review list, including the more recent Blood of the Elements.

Wayward Rogue's Publishing has been putting out hybrid classes under their Shattered Skies banner with the Empath consistently having a strong showing in popularity.

Don't forget to check out what appears to be the first Everyman Iconics, a book containing one iconic character with several stat blocks over 20 levels. Rogue Genius Games has also put out a guide to Venerable Character Options, so in addition to the whipper snappers and older folks you have the REALLY old folks to play with too, making it worthwhile to play something other normal adults for a change.  Fat Goblin Games continues it's Call to Arms series with Ceremonial Masks. With previous Call to Arms books being fairly good there's no doubt that this book will bring a lot of punch to it's chosen subject and make you think a little bit more about masks in your games.

That's it for this week. Tune in later for more commentary. This week has some great things coming out or growing in popularity.  Soon I'll be scheduling my purchases and noting what I buy and what I bought as part of my weekly list, although this will probably occur once a season or when Kickstarters start to fire.  Speaking of Kickstarters, the past week has seen some news from the the recently ended Crisis of the World Eater from LPJ, and I'm anticipating some news from the Aethera campaign.

I'm thinking of expanding my scope to Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition since the 3pp scene for that has been growing and I've gotten more familiar with the game. The game I'm in is on hiatus but i may wind up starting my own once I find the right time slot and what kind of campaign I want to play. It'll most likely be Rise of the Runelords. When I do I'll start writing a bit more about 5th edition and start purchasing third party products for that as well. For now let me hear from you. Post down below to tell me what Pathfinder third party product you've bought in the past week and if you liked it. If you have some third party products from 5th edition, give me some recommendations so I can know where to start.
